F@: A Framework of Group Awareness in Synchronous Distributed Groupware
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes F@ (read as “fat”), our innovative framework of group awareness, which aims to extend our understanding of group awareness and help designers develop awareness mechanisms. First, the abstract level of F@ identifies four awareness schools, including conversational awareness, workspace awareness, contextual awareness and self-awareness. Then, the concrete level of F@ presents some fundamental time-related properties of these four awareness schools using temporal logic expressions. The paper also illustrates examples of how F@ can be applied to the design of awareness mechanisms.

State Treemap: An Awareness Widget for Multi-Synchronous Groupware
Awareness widgets facilitate coordination for both synchronous and asynchronous groupware systems. Unfortunately, they cannot be used for multi-synchronous groupware systems. With a group of architects, we have designed a new awareness widget for multisynchronous groupware system called “State Treemap”. We have developed and integrated this widget in a platform for hosting virtual teams of arch...
متن کاملXML-based Synchronous CSCW
Developing proprietary CSCW applications is prohibitively expensive. Despite a decade of research into CSCW, there is no framework for embedding CSCW applications. For the synchronous distributed mode (same time, different location) of groupware, the framework would have to include two basic ingredients: a shared view (What You See Is What I See) and awareness. Here we propose a generic solutio...
متن کاملTransparent and flexible data sharing for synchronous groupware
Preface Synchronous groupware allows users, who are geographically distributed, to collaborate via a computer network. Currently, groupware is playing a major role in distance education, where it supports group discussions, joint work on electronic courses, joint visits of Web pages, remote laboratories, video conferences, joint program development, cooperative publishing, virtual environments ...
متن کاملSupporting Creative Group Processes – Design Principles for Appropriate Groupware
Creative work is often conducted in distributed groups. Therefore information exchange is frequently facilitated by groupware systems. However, group work suffers from several losses such as information overload, production blocking, free riding, evaluation apprehension and production matching and yet has not been tailored to the need of creative work. In order to reduce these losses and to bes...
